Projects and Programmes

Projects are central to organisational life, but delivering them well is not easy and many fail to achieve their objectives. How’s your delivery going? What complex challenges threaten your results?

I am an APM certified project, programme and portfolio manager. Extensive experience of complex delivery (including across borders, into extreme environments, in consortium, under grants or commercial contracts) using waterfall, agile or adaptive approaches as appropriate. Experience of delivering through local partners in international development contexts and also large-scale digital deliveries across central government. Certified by the Association for Project Management and full member of the APM.

My experiences include:

  • Oversight and direction of a £30m project portfolio for an INGO.

  • Formation of a global programme development capability within an INGO.

  • Stepping in as project director to turn-around a failing £2m NORAD-funded recycling project in West Africa leading to successful delivery.

  • Risk management on a politically sensitive project in the Middle East.

  • Management review of a food security project in Central Africa to assure donor of impact of programme.

  • Delivery of a £12m benefit service digitisation for the DWP.

  • Programme strategy for the digital capabilities programme in the Home Office.

  • Full business case development an information digitalisation programme in the Home Office.

  • Capability building of project teams globally.

  • Thought leadership and development of project and programmes methodologies.

  • Collaborative development of theories of change, logframes, budgets and project narratives.

  • Project delivery audits and/or leadership to resolve project issues.

  • Ensuring that all donor commitments are met, reporting is done well and issues are resolved effectively.

  • Ensuring that all aspects of project management are enabling effective delivery

  • Ensuring that projects have effective decision-making structures, aligned to corporate governance, and managing risk and delivery effectively.

  • Ensuring that critical incidents (e.g. safeguarding, security, financial wrong-doing) are handled sensitively and in a way that builds credibility
