Charity Governance

In a highly regulated environment governance is essential to making decisions, building accountability managing risk, delivering effectively and, ultimately, to survival. Working with international affiliates, local partners and in consortia makes this more challenging. How are your governance processes working?

I am experienced at developing strong corporate governance approaches internally (at both organisational and project levels) and externally to facilitate collaboration.

My experiences include:

  • Developing governance arrangements across a loose INGO affiliate network to effectively manage shared risks.

  • Developing new due diligence, project approvals, delegated authorities and partnership risk management frameworks.

  • Forming and chairing the commercial steering group for a large INGO.

  • Development of policies and procedures (e.g. Institutional Funding Sources Policy, External Communications Approval Policy) and review of a full suite of charitable policies.

  • Developing governance arrangements to ensure effective delivery of projects and programmes.

  • Development of a range of charity policies to ensure compliance and effective management

  • Development of governance structures and approaches for collaborative work between organisations

  • Ensuring appropriate and proportionate structures to facilitate effective project decisions

  • Development of risk management frameworks and processes

  • Risk-sensitive approaches to manage commercial contracts
